Andrew Victor Sharp (SN 5755) born at Ballarat, was a 28 year old clerk when he enlisted in Melbourne on July 7th 1915. He was appointed for several months as a clerk with the Hospital Sick Pay Department in Melbourne before embarking aboard the Ayrshire on July 3rd 1916 as a reinforcement for the 8th Infantry Battalion. He reached his unit in France in October. In February 1917 he was evacuated to hospital in England suffering from a septic toe. While undergoing treatment he developed a breathing problem that prompted his return to Australia. He returned home aboard the Borda, disembarked at Melbourne on November 21st 1917 and was discharged ‘medically unfit, asthma and bronchitis’ on December 24th.

His brother Clarence was killed in action in July 1916 and is also honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
