Biography

Born in Launceston, Tasmania Draper by trade, Aubrey Gordon Bruce was 25 years and single when enlisted on the 9th of July 1915 in the Australian Remount Unit 1, Squadron 1, Australian Imperial Force, with the rank of Private, Number 195. His Unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board Transport A67 'Orsova' on the 12th of November 1915. Promoted Lance Corporal on the 14th of November 1915. On the 30th of January 1916 admitted to hospital and discharged from hospital on the 6th of May 1916. On the 5th of July 1916 promoted to the paid rank of Corporal. On the 24th of November 1917 admitted sick to hospital mumps, Moascar and discharged on the 17th of December 1917, Moascar and was listed as returned to Australia on the 26th of July 1919 ex Egypt. Disembarked on the 29th of August 1919 and discharged from the 3rd Military District with termination of Period of Enlistment on the 21st of October 1919. Tree No. 871
