Biography

Henry Corbett Smith (SN 1918) born in Port Fairy, was a 24 year old packer when he enlisted in Melbourne on April 28th 1916. He embarked aboard the Orontes on August 16th and sailed to England before crossing to France to serve with the 39th Infantry Battalion. While he had some mild illness problems, he avoided battle wounds and returned to Australia aboard the Armagh, disembarked at Melbourne on May 18th 1919 and was discharged on July 13th.

His brother Arnold was killed in action in October 1917 and is also honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
