Biography

Henri Julius Paulig (SN 246) was born in Ballarat and attended Humffray Street State School. He was a 21 year old carpenter when he enlisted on August 19th 1914. He was posted to the 8th Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne in October on board the Benalla. With his brother Albert he took part in the historic Gallipoli landing on April 25th 1915. On May 1915 14th he died of wounds sustained near Krithia. With no known grave, his name is listed on the Australian Memorial at Lone Pine, Gallipoli, Turkey.

His brother Albert was also killed at Gallipoli, a week before Henri, and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
