Stanley John Paulig (SN 13333) born at Steiglitz, was an 18 year old salesman when he enlisted in Ballarat on August 2nd 1915. He trained with the Medical Corps at Ballarat, Castlemaine and Melbourne before embarking aboard the Karoola on March 7th 1916. He sailed first to Egypt and then to France in June where he joined the 13th Field Ambulance. According to his service record he served through the war without any significant illness, injury or incident. He returned to Australia as a member of the nursing staff aboard the Aeneas, disembarking at Melbourne on July 12th 1919. He was discharged on April 7th 1920.

His cousins Albert and Henri were both killed at Gallipoli and are honoured with trees in the Avenue.
