Francis (Frank) Carlyle Lamont (SN 3821) born at Ballarat, was a married 28 year old stuff cutter when he enlisted at Ballarat on July 14th 1915. He embarked aboard the Ceramic on November 23rd assigned to the 46th Infantry Battalion. On arrival in Egypt, he was transferred to the 4th Pioneer Battalion. He reached France in June 1916. Aside from some minor illness and a drunkenness charge he came safely through the war and returned to Australia aboard the Armagh. He disembarked at Melbourne on May 18th 1919 and was discharged on July 27th.
His brothers Frederick and Arthur also served in the AIF and are honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Frank Lamont.
