Andrew McIntyre (SN 529) born at Ballarat was a 24 year old farm labourer when he enlisted in Melbourne on August 19th 1914. He embarked aboard the Wiltshire on October 20th and sailed to Egypt. In May 1915 he landed at Gallipoli to serve with the 4th Light Horse Regiment. After Gallipoli he served in France where he was occasionally troubled by illness but avoided combat wounds. On January 9th 1917, while on leave in England, he married Ethel Keys at Grantham. In March 1917 he was transferred to the 22nd Machine Gun Company for the remainder of the war. He returned to Australia aboard the Essex, disembarked at Melbourne on August 1st 1918 and was discharged on August 17th ‘medically unfit, nephritis’.
His brothers Alexander and Rupert also served in the AIF and are honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
