Biography

Born in Ballarat, Herbert Arthur Lyons was a single 23 year old chemists' assistant at the time of his enlistment in Broadmeadows, Victoria on the 23rd of July 1915. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A18 Wiltshire on the 7th of March 1916.
On the 5th of September 1916, Herbert was wounded in action with a gunshot wound to his leg. He embarked for England on the 6th of September and was admitted to Norfolk War Hospital in Thorpe, Norwich, England.
On the 21st of December 1918, Hebert was promoted to Staff Sergeant.
He returned to Australia on the 14th of February 1919, and was discharged as medically unfit on the 31st of March 1919.
