Biography

Norman Wright (SN 13381) was a 24 year old grocer from Cobden Street in Ballarat when he enlisted at Broadmeadows on July 12th 1915. He trained with the Medical Corps and embarked from Melbourne on March 7th 1916 aboard the Karoola.
In April he joined the 12th Field Ambulance for service in France. On January 26th 1917 he was wounded in action. He sustained a slight shrapnel wound above his left ear but a more serious gunshot wound to his left foot. He was evacuated to the Clandon Park Hospital at Guildford in England. His ankle wound ended the war for him and he returned to Australia on the Demosthenes, disembarking at Melbourne on September 24th 1917.
Norman had reached 100 years of age when he died on 13th December 1991.
His brothers James and William also served in the AIF and are honoured with trees in the Avenue.
