Biography

James Henry Wright (SN 4613) was a 21 year old fellmonger from Cobden Street, Mount Pleasant when he enlisted as a Private with the 8th Battalion, 14th Reinforcements on the 17th of July 1915, a week after his brother Norman. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board Themistocles on the 28th of January 1916. On September 16th 1916 he was taken on strength to the 12th Field Ambulance. On the 11th of April 1917 James was wounded in action with a severe gunshot wound to his right leg, he returned to Australia on board the Berrima on the 30th of December 1917 and was discharged as medically unfit on the 2nd of February 1918.
His brothers Norman and William also served in the AIF and are honoured with trees in the Avenue.
