Biography

Edgar Albert Taylor was born in Hamilton, Victoria, was single and a Labourer when he enlisted with the 6th Battalion, 5th Reinforcement on 18 January 1915 at the age of 22. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A20 Hororata on 17 April 1915. His early military career involved disciplinary action, mostly disobeying orders from his immediate superiors. He was admitted to hospital on 13 September 1916 for scabies, an unfortunately common plight in the trenches, and returned to his battalion on 2 January 1917. The remainder of his term of service seems to have been without major incident, illness or injury, and he returned to Australia from England aboard the Port Darwin on 12 June 1919.
