Edgar Albert Taylor (SN 2038) born at Hamilton, was a 22 year old labourer when he enlisted in Melbourne on January 9th 1915. He embarked from Melbourne aboard the Hororata on April 17th and sailed to Egypt. In early August he joined the 6th Infantry Battalion at Gallipoli just ahead of the August offensive and the Battle of Lone Pine. After six weeks, illness forced his evacuation to Mudros, then Malta then finally to England. His time in England was dominated by several discipline charges and a prolonged illness. In December 1916 he rejoined his unit, now in France, and from this point his service was largely without incident. After the war he returned to Australia aboard the Port Darwin, disembarked at Melbourne on July 27th 1919 and was discharged on September 25th.

His brother Percy was killed in action in May 1917 and is also honoured with a tree in the Avenue. Brother in law James Peasnell was killed in action in October 1917 and also his brother in law Edward Peasnell served and they are honoured with trees in the Avenue.
