Biography

Percy Hamilton Taylor (SN 1551A) was born in Hamilton but educated at Ballarat’s Urquhart Street State School. He was 28 years old, married to Emily, and employed as a brickmaker when he enlisted on March 27th 1915. He was posted to the 24th Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne just two weeks later on board the Euripides, reaching Gallipoli in August. Diphtheria caused his evacuation in October but he was able to rejoin his unit in Egypt in March 1916 in time to travel to France. He was promoted to Sergeant in July and wounded in March 1917 before being killed in action near Bullecourt on May 3rd 1917. He has no known grave and his name is recorded on the Australian Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France.
