Biography

Edward John Peasnell (SN 5192) born in Ballarat, was a married 44 year old brick drawer when he enlisted in Melbourne on September 27th 1915. Posted to the 8th Infantry Battalion he embarked aboard the Suffolk on April 1st 1916 and sailed to Egypt where he was transferred to the 1st Pioneer Battalion. He moved on to France in November and while he avoided battle wounds he was disabled by a combination of an ankle injury, bronchitis and trench feet. He was returned to Australia aboard the Nestor and was discharged medically unfit on December 19th 1917.

His brother James was killed in action in October 1917 and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue and his brother in law Edgar is also honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
