Biography

Samuel Eddy (SN 5675) born at Bendigo, was a married 38 year old tailor when he enlisted in Melbourne on February 5th 1916. Allotted to the 7th Infantry Battalion he embarked aboard the Ayrshire on July 3rd and sailed to England. He joined his unit in France in February 1917 but from May he had ongoing health problems arising from influenza and trench fever. He was returned to Australia aboard the Port Lyttleton and discharged ‘medically unfit – rheumatism & age’ on January 22nd 1918.

His sons Samuel and William also served in the AIF and are honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
