Biography

Albert Edward Kewley (SN 6053) was born in Geelong but went to school in Ballarat at Urquhart Street State School and enlisted in Ballarat on May 2nd 1916. The married miner, who recorded his age as 44 years old, was posted to the 8th Infantry Battalion. Soon after he reached the UK he was hospitalised with acute bronchitis and asthma and was returned to Australia. He was granted leave to return to his home about three weeks before he died on April 22nd 1917. Causes of death included bronchitis, asthma and heart failure. His death certificate listed his age as 53 years. He is buried in the Ballarat New Cemetery.

His sons Edwin and Frederick also served in the AIF and are both recognised with trees in the Avenue.
