Biography

Frederick Hugh Kewley (SN 884) was born in Ballarat East and attended Mt. Pleasant State School. He was 19 years old, single and employed as a draper when he enlisted on September 15th 1914. He was posted to the 14th Infantry Battalion and promoted to Sergeant before sailing from Australia just prior to Christmas on board the Ulysses. He was killed in action at Gallipoli on May 1st 1915, and is buried in Courtney’s & Steele's Post Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey.

His father Albert and brother Edwin also served in the AIF and are both recognised with trees in the Avenue.
