Richard Reynolds Northcott (SN 198) born in Ballarat, was a 21year old clerk when he enlisted in Ballarat on March 14th1916. He embarked aboard the Ascanius on May 27th and sailed to England to serve with the 39th Infantry Battalion. He crossed to France in November to join the fighting on the Western Front. While he had some minor health issues he came through the war without significant injury. He returned to Australia aboard the Ceramic, disembarked at Melbourne on March 23rd1919 and was discharged on April 30th.
His brothers John and Allan also served in the AIF and are honoured with trees in the Avenue.
