Biography

John Northcott (Capt.) born at Creswick and was 24 years old when he entered the AIF as a captain with the 12th Infantry Battalion on August 28th 1914. On October 20th he embarked from Hobart aboard the Geelong. He was wounded in action in the confusion of the first days at Gallipoli, suffering a gunshot wound to his left chest. He was evacuated to hospital where it was decided he should be returned to Australia. He returned aboard the Osterley, disembarked at Hobart on December 30th 1915 and his appointment was terminated on September 30th 1916. He served again with distinction in World War 2.

His brothers Richard and Allan also served in the AIF and are honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
