Frederick Thomas Westcott (SN 1892) born at Warrenheip, was a 37 year old married farmer when he enlisted in Melbourne on April 5th 1916. He embarked aboard the Ascanius on May 11th 1917 and sailed to England. In September he crossed to France to serve with the 16th Australian Light Rail Operating Company. His service was largely without incident, although in August 1917 he was formally reprimanded for smoking on parade. In April 1918 he was hospitalised with signs of defective hearing and this led to him being returned to Australia. He was discharged on August 20th 1918 ‘medically unfit, deafness’.
His brothers Garnet and John and his sister Annie also served in the AIF and are honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
