Margaret was born on June 4th, 1890 at Ballarat East, Victoria to William and Mary Elonie (née Anderson) Rodger. She had three years nurses' training at a Children's Hospital prior to enlisting on July 10th, 1917, aged 27 years. On September 6th, 1917 Margaret embarked on Kyarra bound for Bombay, India. Upon arrival four weeks later, Margaret was posted to the Victoria War Hospital in Bombay, where she nursed for the next nine months. On July 27th, 1918 she was transferred to the G. Freeman Thomas Hospital, Bombay before finally being posted to the Hospital Ship Varsova five months later. On September 6th, 1919 Margaret was promoted to Sister and on December, 8th, 1919 she embarked at Bombay and returned to Australia via Calcutta aboard Janus, arriving in Melbourne, Victoria on January 11th, 1920. Margaret was discharged on April 10th, 1920. Her brother, Hugh Roy Rodger and sister, Mary Elonie Rodger also served in the AIF and are honoured with trees in the Avenue.
