Mary Elonie (Lulu) Rodger (Staff Nurse) born in Ballarat, trained as a nurse at the Ballarat Base Hospital. She was 25 when she joined the Australian Army Nursing Service on August 22nd 1916, the same day she embarked from Melbourne aboard the Mooltan. She sailed to Bombay, India, where she was served at the Victoria War Hospital treating British soldiers. In July 1917 she was transferred to Salonica in Greece where she served until May 1918 when a Medical Board assessed her as medically unfit to continue nursing. She returned to Australia aboard the Kanowna, disembarked on September 1st 1918 and her position was terminated on November 25th due to anaemia.

Her brothers William, and Hugh and sister Margaret also served in the AIF and are honoured with trees in the Avenue.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records her name as Elouie Rodger.
