George Bawtree Webb (SN 2056) was Ballarat born and educated at Grenville College. He described himself as a 32 year old farmer when he enlisted at Yea on September 26th 1914. He was posted to the 21st Infantry Battalion and embarked on August 26th 1915. Later he saw service with the 14th Infantry Battalion, and the 2nd Pioneer Battalion. On August 1st 1916 he was killed in action at Pozieres and is buried in the Gordon Dump Cemetery, Somme, France.
His brothers Sydney and Francis also served in the AIF and are honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
