Richard B. Boyce was born in Smeaton, VIC and was a Miner by trade when he enlisted in the No 6 Tunnelling Company on 8 January 1916 at the age of 43. His unit embarked from Fremantle, Western Australia, on board HMAT A69 Warilda on 1 June 1916. Discharged 12 February 1919

Richard had two brothers that also served: Bertram Allenby Boyce, 5th Bn, killed in action, Pozieres, France, 25 July 1916 (Tree No 741) and James Ferguson Boyce (Tree No 2981)
