Biography

Bertram Allanby Boyce (SN 2785) was born at Yendon and educated at Queen Street State School in Ballarat. He was a 32-year-old railway shunter when he enlisted on June 16th 1915. He embarked from Melbourne on September 10th aboard the Star of Victoria, first to Egypt then on to France in March 1916 to serve with the 5th Battalion. On July 25th 1916 he was listed as missing in action at Pozieres but later deemed to have been killed in action on that date. He has no known grave and his service is commemorated on the Australian Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux and on the honour board of the Queen Street State School. He was 33 years of age.

His brothers James and Richard also served in the AIF and are honoured with trees in the Avenue.
