Biography

Norman Vivian Gladstone Kerby (SN 115) was born in Ballarat and was educated at Humffray Street State School and St. Patrick’s College. As a 19 year old clerk he enlisted in Melbourne on August 17th 1914. He was posted to the 7th Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne in October on board the Hororata. He left Alexandria, bound for Gallipoli, on the same transport ship as his brother Ed in early April 1915. He was killed in the landing at Gallipoli on April 25th 1915. He has no known grave and his name is recorded on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey.

Norman was one of five brothers who served in the AIF, with two of them killed in action. Ed, Mack, Roy and Noble are all honoured with trees in the Avenue.
