Biography

Noble Kerby (SN 51630) was born in Ballarat East and was employed as a clerk at the time of his enlistment on February 22nd 1918 at the age of 18. He left Sydney with the 3rd General Reinforcements on board the Orontes in June and, by the time he reached England in August, the war was entering its final months. Attached to the Australian General Base Depot he was posted to France in January 1919 to assist with the post-war scale down and withdrawal of men and resources. He returned to Australia later that year on board the Devon with his brother Roy. He was discharged on April 21st 1920.

Noble was one of five brothers who served in the AIF, with two of them killed in action. Norman, Mack, Edwin and Roy are all honoured with trees in the Avenue.
