Charles William Moore (SN 635) born at Allendale, was a 24 year old labourer when he enlisted in Melbourne on February 10th 1916. On June 3rd he embarked aboard the Persic and sailed to England before joining the 37th Infantry Battalion in France in November. In October 1917 he suffered an arm wound, then in August 1918, with the end of the war in sight, he was transferred to the Australian Employment Company. At war’s end he returned home aboard the Lancashire, disembarked at Melbourne on March 31st 1919 and was discharged on August 19th.
His brothers Joseph and Alfred also served in the AIF and are honoured with trees in the Avenue.
