Biography

Joseph John Moore (SN 482) born at Allendale, was a married 24 year old cutter when he enlisted at Toowoomba Qld on August 26th 1914. He embarked aboard the Omrah on September 24th and sailed to Egypt. With the 9th Infantry Battalion, he landed at Gallipoli on April 25th 1915 but sustained a back injury on that day. He was evacuated first to Egypt and then to England. He was returned to Australia aboard the Marathon, disembarked at Melbourne on September 24th 1916, exactly two years after his embarkation, and was discharged on February 19th 1917 ‘medically unfit, dysentery and asthma’.

His brothers Alfred and Charles also served in the AIF and are honoured with trees in the Avenue.
