Biography

Thomas George Thwaites (SN 1121/1182) was born at St Arnaud and attended the Maryborough West State School. He was an 18 year old labourer when he enlisted in Maryborough on 21st September 1914. He joined the 6th Australian Field Ambulance and embarked from Melbourne on December 22nd. In May 1915 he suffered a bullet wound to the hip but recovered and saw out the Gallipoli campaign. He moved to France towards the end of March 1916 but on November 6th 1916 he was killed action in the Gueudecourt area, and is buried in Thistle Dump Cemetery, High Wood, France.
