Biography

Rob Roy McGregor, (SN 2413) was born at Durham Lead, attended Eureka Street State School, Ballarat East and was a 22 year old single labourer when he enlisted on Feb 3 1916. In April he embarked from Sydney NS.W. on board the Mashobra arriving in Marsailles, France after a stopover in Alexandria, Egypt, on June 5 1916 and taken on strength with the 1st Division Ammunition Column. On November 13 he was evacuated with pleurisy and hospitalized rejoining his unit on December 15, 1916. Shortly after he was evacuated again, this time to England with a debility where he remained for the duration of his service. As he was deemed no longer fit for service, he left England for Melbourne on July 22 1917 and was discharged as medically unfit - cardiac insufficiency, on March 18 1918.

His brothers James, William and Stanley also served in the AIF and are honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
