William Blencowe Berry (SN 2399), born at Bendigo, was an 18 year old fitter when he enlisted in Ballarat on October 16th 1917. He trained as an air mechanic at Laverton before embarking aboard the Ulysses on December 22nd. After a short stay in Egypt, he moved to England where he served at the Australian Flying Corps Training Depot. After the war he returned home on the Kaiser-i-Hind, disembarked at Melbourne on June 16th 1919 and was discharged on July 9th.
His brothers Benjamin and Graham also served in the AIF and are honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
