Biography

John Henry Hammon (SN 3333) from Havelock Street, Ballarat, was a single 32 year old grocer when he enlisted in Liverpool, NSW, on July 18th 1915. He was posted to 4th Infantry Battalion and left Australia in October, 1915 from Sydney, on board the <em?Port Lincoln.

Transferred to 56th Battalion in February 1916, arriving in France in March 1916 and served for a time with the Australian Army Provost Corps. Wounded at Pozieres, France in July 1916. He was killed in action near Harbonnieres on August 23rd 1918, at age 35 and is buried in the Heath Cemetery, Harbonnieres, France.

He was 35 years of age.
