Biography

Edward Ellis (SN 3252) born at Carngham and educated at the Snake Valley State School, was a 19 year old railway clerk, living in Ballarat when he enlisted on March 16th 1915. He served as a Sergeant Stretcher Bearer with the 6th Australian Field Ambulance with such gallantry and devotion to duty that he was awarded both a Military Medal and a Meritorious Service Medal. He received multiple wounds during the fighting around Passchendaele and died of his wounds on September 28th 1917. He was 21 years of age and is buried in the Lijessenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium.

His brothers William and George also served in the AIF and are honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
