William Ellis was born in Ballarat, Victoria was single and was employed as a Labourer. He enlisted in Melbourne, Victoria at the age of 18. He volunteered and was stationed with the 6th Battalion, 6th Reinforcement with the Regimental number 2311. He was discharged and Returned to Australia on the 19th of April 1919.
His brothers Edward and George also served in the AIF and are honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
