Biography

Leslie Charles Day (SN 187) born at Warracknabeal, was a 20 year old baker when he enlisted in Melbourne on January 7th 1915. On May 28th he embarked aboard the Persic destined for service at Gallipoli. In September he suffered a mild wound to his elbow. After Gallipoli he served primarily with the 14th Field Artillery Brigade. In August 1917 he suffered severe gunshot wounds to both legs and an ankle and a bone was fractured in each leg. He was returned to Australia on the Persic, disembarked at Melbourne on February 12th 1918 and was discharged medically unfit on March 21st.

His brothers David and Garnet also served in the AIF and are honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
