Leslie Scott was born in Ballarat, Victoria, was single and a Farmer when he enlisted in the Infantry Brigade 6, Field Ambulance 6, Reinforcement 6 on 19 May 1915 at the age of 31. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A71 Nestor on 11 October 1915. He was temporarily attached for duty with the 8th Field Ambulance on 6 December 1916. He was later transferred to the 1st A DS Column and appointed as a Driver (Medical Transport) on 13 October 1917. In July 1918 he was admonished for overstaying his leave, a minor offence, and returned home from England on 27 June 1919.
