Biography

William Mann (SN 1988) born in Daylesford, was a 24 year old labourer when he enlisted in Melbourne on July 6th 1915. He embarked aboard the Hymettus on January 27th 1916. He reached France in June to serve with the 4th Division Ammunition Column but was later transferred to the 11th Field Artillery Brigade. While he had a lengthy illness interruption during his service, he avoided battle wounds. He returned to Australia aboard the China, disembarked at Melbourne on June 8th 1919 and was discharged on July 31st.

His brother Charles also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.

One of a number of soldiers with multiple entries in the original register, he is also recognised at Tree 1015.
