Biography

Claud Vincent Suares (SN 1371) born in Geelong, was an 18 year old labourer when he enlisted in Melbourne on July 9th1915. He embarked aboard the Hawkes Bay on October 26th and sailed to Egypt where he served with the 8th Light Horse Regiment. He avoided serious illness or injury but did have some discipline issues including twice being charged with using insubordinate language to his superior officer for which he was sentenced to time in detention. He returned to Australia aboard the Malta, disembarked at Melbourne on August 7th 1919 and was discharged on January 6th1920.

His brothers Leslie, Hugh and William also served in the AIF and are honoured with trees in the Avenue.
