Biography

Eric John Ewart (SN 4344) was born in Melbourne but enlisted in Ballarat on July 14th 1915 as a 23 year old, single farmer. He left Melbourne with the 7th Infantry Battalion on board the Demosthenes in December and arrived in France in June 1916. He was killed in action near Flers on November 6th 1916 and, as he has no known grave, his name is on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.

His brothers Harold and Roy also served in the AIF and are honoured with trees in the Avenue.
