Isaac Collingwood Lindsey (SN 5141) was born and enlisted in Ballarat. He was a 21 year old tinsmith when he enlisted on January 28th 1916. He embarked from Melbourne on the Suffolk on April 1st and reached England on May 14th. Initially posted to the 8th Infantry Battalion he was transferred to the 5th Battalion in September, but his service was cut short when he was diagnosed with a heart problem. He was returned to Australia aboard the Euripides and was discharged as ‘medically unfit, heart’ on October 23rd 1917.
His brother Robert was killed in action on May 3rd 1915. His brothers William, Ernest and George also served in the AIF and are honoured with trees in the Avenue.
Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Isaac C Lindsay.
