Pvt. George Lindsey was born in Allendale, Victoria and a tinsmith by trade. He enlisted in the 8th Infantry battalion at 20 years of age on 18 August 1914. He was admitted to the 1st General Hospital for a gunshot wound to the foot received on 30 April 1915 and was later invalided to Australia on 3 September 1915. He received a medical discharge on 14 April 1916.
