Richard Garfield Fishwick (SN 12993) born in Ballarat, was a married 29 year old clerk when he enlisted in Ballarat on August 2nd 1915. He trained with the Australian Medical Corps in Melbourne until he disembarked aboard the Runic on June 20th 1916. In November 1916 reached France to serve with the 10th Field Ambulance. The highlight of his service was a Belgian ‘Decoration Militaire’ awarded to him in March 1918. After the war he returned as a member of the nursing staff aboard the wakopmund, disembarked at Melbourne on August 2nd 1919 and was discharged on September 16th. He also enlisted to service during World War 2.
His brothers Septimus, Jack and Ivo also served in the AIF and are honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
