David Harold Davis (SN 6949) born in Ballarat was a labourer when he enlisted on February 28th 1917 giving his age at the time as 18. Assigned to the 21st Battalion he embarked from Melbourne aboard the Ascanius on May 11th and on arrival in England he joined the 6th Training Battalion. After a series of disciplinary actions, one of which resulting in a Court Martial, it was discovered that David was underage upon enlistment and returned to Australia on the Euripides, reaching Melbourne on March 21st 1918. This, however, did not stop him from attempting to re-enlist under the name of John Henry Bunting. On December 13th 1918 he was discharged, ‘services no longer required'.

His brothers Charles, Frank and John also served in the AIF and are honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
