Charles Albert Davis (SN 1537) born at Ballarat, was a 25 year old labourer when he enlisted in Ballarat on April 27th 1915. On June 28th he embarked aboard the Berrima to serve with the 22nd Infantry Battalion in France. During his service he was wounded twice, shell shock and a gunshot wound to the hand, and spent 63 days at Bulford Hospital. Aside from these health-related issues he was twice charged with serious absences without leave. He returned to Australia aboard the Anchises, disembarked on October 8th 1919 and was discharged on December 7th.
His brothers Frank, John and David also served in the AIF and are honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
