Allan Verner Primrose (SN 22313) born in Ballarat, was a 27 year old iron worker when he enlisted in Melbourne on January 21st 1916. He embarked aboard the Medic on May 20th to serve with the 8th Field Artillery Brigade. He reached France on New Year’s Day 1917 and avoided injury or illness until he became ill a week before the war ended. On the day the Armistice was signed, November 11th 1918, he was admitted to hospital in England suffering from influenza. He was returned to Australia aboard the Mamari, disembarked at Melbourne on February 4th 1919 and was discharged ‘medically unfit, influenza’ on March 14th.
His brother Alfred also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue. Two nephews are also honoured with trees in the Avenue, Leslie who was killed in action in June 1918 and George.
