Alfred Gordon Primrose (SN 1634) born at Ballarat, was a 29 year old vulcanizer when he enlisted in Melbourne on November 23rd 1916. His attestation form noted he was ‘fit only for non-combatant duty’. He trained as an Air Mechanic with the Australian Flying Corps at Laverton before embarking from Sydney aboard the Marathon on May 10th 1917. On December 1st he reached France for service with the 2nd Squadron AFC. He completed his service without serious illness or injury and returned to Australia aboard the Beltana, disembarked at Melbourne on July 19th 1919 and was discharged on September 25th. He also enlisted to serve during WW2 with service number V356437.

His brother Allan also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue. Two nephews are also honoured with trees in the Avenue, Leslie who was killed in action in June 1918 and George.
