Robert Leslie Provis (SN 670) was born in Waterloo near Ballarat but enlisted in Albert Park on August 17th 1914. The 19 year old waiter left Melbourne with the 5th Battalion on board the Orvieto in October, bound for Gallipoli. He was evacuated to Mudros with gastroenteritis in September, then admitted to St John's Hospital in Malta with nephritis a few days later. He was repatriated to Australia on board the Runic in April and disembarked in Melbourne in May 1916.
He is one of four brothers who served in the AIF. Edward, Robert, Francis and Cecil are all honoured with adjacent trees in the Avenue.
